Will Wright's boatyard during the early summer of 1971

A few of the boats had been launched for the fishing season as the carriage is located in the foreground where they would have wintered over. The person in the photo is Will Wright. He is rasping or "easing the edges of" a piece of wood in preparation for launching the next boat.
Chapin K. Krafft was helping Will with flotation upgrades when he paused to take this photograph, taken from a "fish spotting tower" on one of the boats.
Krafft remembers, “I worked with Will preparing the boats for the 1971 season, and also on the Gear 8-3 (eighth row of gears, third ‘gear’ from the beach) as part of his fishing crew that season. I went on to foreman ‘8-3’ for three fishing seasons after that, while living on Lummi Island. I took many fishing photographs over those years, but after having gotten to know Will as a friend, neighbor, and boss, this ranks among my favorite images. I consider it a true portrait of Will himself, as his boat yard was really who he was. It appears chaotic around the tool sheds, yet he knew exactly where each board leaned.”
